![]() Newsletter for The Positive Living Center #0003 February 01, 2010The Importance of Magnesium Magnesium is one of the many important minerals that people need in the body everyday. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer. Symptoms of magnesium deficiencies can include but is not limited to heart attack, headaches, nervousness, muscle cramps and spasms, heart palpitations, swelling of joints, rapid heart rate, insomnia, brittle bones, angina and pre-menstrual syndrome. Without magnesium the muscles have trouble relaxing and reflects itself throughout the body. The proper amount of magnesium in any supplement according to the evidence I read is 2 parts magnesium to 1 part calcium if you are taking supplements, unfortunately many supplements have 1 part magnesium to 2 parts calcium which causes a magnesium deficiency. Problems also arise when calcium supplements are just calcium without magnesium or the ratio is incorrect. Magnesium that is in a tablet form has to pass through the digestive system to be absorbed. Peter Gillham of Natural Vitality has an ionic magnesium powder called Natural Calm that is mixed with water which is absorbed quickly and effectively. Natural Calm is an anti-stress drink which has been known to stop angina, helps people sleep through the night, remove calcium deposits in the arteries, joints and muscles and most important helps you relax. Some of the ways that the body is robbed of magnesium is from coffee, alcohol, soda and calcium supplements just to name a few. Many people find that it is important to change their lifestyle by finding supplements that work or change eating, drinking and exercise habits so that the magnesium levels in their body stop being depleted. When the body has enough magnesium the muscles will be more relaxed so tension in the body is less likely. People that practice different types of body work notice tightness from muscles calcifying everywhere from the head to the feet and magnesium can be a great help. It can be extremely hard to work on people that have signs of minerals deficiencies because the muscles stay stiff and won't release. When stimulating the lymphatic system during body work the pain and stiffness will be absent for longer periods of time when people are rich in minerals. Of course one can also make the most out of their level of health by eating plenty of fresh green vegetables that are rich in magnesium and then supplements may be unnecessary depending on your lifestyle. If people are eating properly raised and organic foods they always get what they need for health. Article submitted by Ron Scanlon N.D. At The Positive Living Center.
